Autumn Trapping and Wairaurahiri River News

Hi All,

We have had an extremely busy season here at Wairaurahiri Jet. Boating on the Wairaurahiri River has just been awesome with just great river levels to enhance the grade three rapids. That was till the 18th March when the water in the river became too low to safely navigate. The good news is the Wairaurahiri River levels have come up with the last two lots of rain and Johan is back operating Yay…

Winter or Autumn has taken a while to come upon us which is great news for the bookings we have coming up. Don’t forget to put a extra layer of clothing on, Grip the heated hand rails with both hands and hold on for the trip of your life.

I (Joyce) has been continuing to check the Stoat traps along the South Coast track monthly, there hasn’t been too much activity which could be attributed to all the traps being sprung along the track. This sadly has probably upset the catches as sprung traps meant that the traps are useless for catching the evil stoats and rats. I’m off again with my bubby Kathy for company to check they all are in place and doing their job.

Some other news is that the Hump Ridge Track traps have been handed over to Wairaurahiri Jet to manage and maintain Yay another 100 traps they are going to need support and be ready for the beech tree seeding that has been forecast.

Hope the upcoming winter is going to be full of warm evenings by the fire planning your winter escape to the sunny (maybe) South Coast

Take Care and as always DEATH TO THE STOATS RAH RAH RAH
